Raised Around the Trade

Matt grew up in the woods south of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, far enough out that going to town was a trip. Raised in church, he built his life on a strong Christian faith that still guides how he lives and works today.

Some of his earliest memories are of riding along with his older brother and their grandfather, Papa John, to new home builds and remodels. The boys picked up nails, swept slabs, hauled scrap to the dumpster, and brought wood scraps home to build houses and buildings for their Hot Wheels town. Over time, the small jobs turned into real ones. Matt learned to read a tape before he could read a blueprint. He learned why you crown a stud, how to snap a line, and how to check a wall for square and plumb. Most of all, he learned that the details nobody sees are the ones that matter most.

The House Dad Built

Construction runs in the family. Matt’s dad was a homebuilder and framer who built the house where Matt grew up with his mom, older brother, and two older sisters. Before the carpet went in, the kids roller skated through the rooms. A closet opened into a hidden space under the stairs that became their playroom, and sometimes their bedroom for the night. Even the back deck had its own story, thanks to two goats who loved climbing the stairs and jumping off. Growing up in a home his father built taught Matt that a house is more than a structure. It is where a family’s life happens.

From Sketches to Service

Watching his dad and Papa John build sparked a lifelong interest in how homes are designed. In his spare time, Matt sketched floor plans and exterior elevations just for fun. Every summer break, he worked alongside Papa John building new homes and remodeling existing ones, learning the trade from the ground up and seeing how every phase, from foundation to final trim, fits together.

Matt also loved football, playing from third grade flag football through his senior year of high school. He would have loved a shot at the NFL, but he knew his future was in building, and he set his sights on becoming an architect.

After a couple of years of college, Matt joined the Air National Guard as a Structural Apprentice in the Civil Engineer Squadron. Over 20 years of service, he advanced to Structural Journeyman and then Structural Craftsman, deploying to numerous locations in support of a wide range of missions. The military sharpened his technical skills and instilled the discipline, accountability, and attention to detail he brings to every project today.

A Career Built on Every Side of the Industry

His civilian career has given him an unusually broad view of the industry. Matt has worked construction, operated forklifts in logistics, installed systems as a field technician, sold homes as a Realtor, sold roofing, served as a builder for a large DFW luxury production homebuilder, and managed remodeling projects across the Metroplex. Each role taught him something about how projects succeed, how clients feel along the way, and how to communicate clearly at every step.

In 2020, Matt founded True North Construction to bring all of that together: a veteran-owned remodeling company built on faith, craftsmanship, honesty, and military precision.

Life Outside the Job Site

Meeting his wife, Brittany, pushed Matt even harder to chase his dreams. She is his biggest supporter and the reason he keeps raising the bar. Together they share their home with three fur babies: Bentley, Lola, and Ellie, Lola’s “baby.” Matt also has a deep heart for veterans in need and is passionate about supporting causes that serve them.

When he’s not on a job site, you’ll usually find Matt fishing, hunting, or riding the four-wheeler on the family ranch.

A Calling Found Early

Brittany grew up in the Texas Hill Country and fell in love with the idea of “home” at a very young age. In fourth grade, a class project had students turn shoe boxes into dollhouses, decorating each room with magazine clippings and drawing up a floor plan to match. Brittany was fascinated. Arranging those tiny rooms sparked a love for creating beautiful spaces for people to enjoy, and from that point on, she couldn’t wait to make it her life’s work. Raised with a strong Christian faith, she sees that gift as a calling and approaches every home with gratitude and care.

Trained in Architecture and Design

Brittany earned her Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Oklahoma, along with a minor in Interior Design. That combination gives her a rare perspective: she understands both how a space is built and how it should feel to live in. She sees the structure, the flow, and the finishes as one complete picture rather than separate decisions.

Experience at Every Scale

Brittany began her career with an architecture firm designing apartment communities across the United States, where she learned to plan spaces that work for the people who live in them. She then joined a high-end home remodeling company, bringing her design skills to luxury residential projects and working closely with homeowners to transform their spaces.

From Design to the Front Door

Brittany later earned her real estate license and has spent six years helping clients find their dream homes. She remains a licensed, active Realtor today. Real estate expanded her passion for design to include the acquisition side of homeownership, giving her firsthand insight into what buyers value, how homes hold their worth, and which improvements truly make a difference.

Leading Design at True North

Today, Brittany serves as co-owner and design lead of True North Construction. Her design approach starts with the home itself. Rather than forcing one look onto every project, she lets the architecture and surroundings of each home guide its character, so every space has its own flair. She loves mixing styles and textures to create luxury spaces that feel timeless and warm, and she brings together her architectural training, interior design eye, and real estate experience to guide clients through every decision with confidence.

Life Outside the Office

In her spare time, Brittany enjoys traveling with her husband, Matt, whether exploring historic architecture and cities or seeking out outdoor adventures. She loves spending time on the family ranch riding four-wheelers and snuggling with their three fur babies: Bentley, Lola, and Ellie, Lola’s “baby.”

Veteran-owned

True North Construction is a veteran-owned company, founded in 2020.

True North Construction was founded in 2020, but our founder has been in residential construction since he was a young boy — more than 30 years on job sites. That experience shows up in every estimate, every framing decision, and every final walkthrough. We're a proud, veteran-owned company.
